Sergei remembers his training as a captain with in the Soviet Union?s Black Sea fleet. ?I was the only crew member from Karakalpak?, he said,.proudly referring to his Uzbek republic. When he left the service he brought the stripes he had earned to the Aral Sea where he lent the young fishermen the benefits of his shipping experience.
