Daka Majhi stands outside his house in Lanjigarh. Vedanta has been negotiating to buy some of his land but Daka has refused to sell. Six acres of his land (inside the refinery area) was forcibly bought from him in the past. He and other villagers are now refusing to sell their land at any cost, causing major obstruction to the expansion plans of Vedanta. The huge bauxite deposits in the Niyamgiri hills have led the Vedanta group to set up an alumina refinery at Lanjigarh, making the local population of Dongria Kondh tribespeople fearful for their future.
