Dye from one of the many tannies in the Hazaribagh area. The 17-kilometre stretch of the Buriganga River has become a dumping ground for Dhaka, one of the fastest growing cities in the world. According to the Department of Environment (DoE), the 243 tanneries dump 20,000 tonnes of tannery untreated, highly toxic liquid wastes into the river.
