Due to overpopulation, poverty and a combination of natural phenomenon, such as land erosion and increased frequency of cyclones and floods, many people in Bangladesh's delta region have lost their homes. Some families have made their fishing boats their homes, living in the lagoons and commuting between the islands and the mainland. The communities of River Gypsies are looked down upon by land-dwelling communities, and due to their semi-nomadic way of life, it is difficult for NGOs to build projects for their needs.
