The HumboldtBox, is a temporary exhibition venue, on the site of a planned but controversial reconstruction of the Berlin City Palace, or Schlosspalast. The original Berliner Schloss was a palace built by Prussian kings during the 18th and 19th centuries that was heavily damaged in World War II. The communist era East Berlin City authorities demolished the ruins in 1950 to make way for the Palace of the Republic, the former East German parliament building, which Berlin city authorities, in turn, demolished last year. .
