Herdsmen allow their buffaloes to wallow in water pools .on the site of old Union Carbide pesticide plant. Thousands of people were killed following a methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas leak at the Union Carbide factory in December 1984. The incident has been called one of the world's worst industrial disasters and over 100,000 people who were exposed to the toxic gas have been left with chronic health problems. It is also thought that much of the surrounding water supply is still contaminated.
