Cared for by local volunteers, a young girl is among the lucky few to live in an orphanage in Kampala, Uganda on April 20, 2001. More than 13 million African children have been orphaned by the the AIDS pandemic. Worldwide, more than 20 million people have died since the first cases of AIDS were identified in 1981.
