A man hands out flyers to people in a crowd protesting against cuts, austerity and joblessness in Madrid's Puerta del Sol square. In May 2012, following a worsening financial crisis and a deepening recession in Spain, thousands of people started to gather in Spanish cities to protest against austerity, the global financial system, high unemplyment rate (Spain's is the highest rate in Europe) and the lack of opportunities. The protest movement has become known as 'los indignados' (the indignant ones).
