Farmers hold onto their coralled bulls as the crowds gather for the annual Jallikattu bull run, an integral part of Pongal the Tamil New Year/Harvest Festival. The highlight of the festivities is the bull run when farmers attempt to mount and 'tame' an enraged bull in order to grab a decoration from its purposely sharpened horns. Anyone who succeeds in doing so can win one of a range of prizes, including the top prize of a bicycle.
