An oil spill probably caused by ?bunkering? (theft of oil) has polluted the water in Goi village. Shell, the owners of the pipe, have not cleaned up the mess claiming that they are not responsible because the spill was caused by ?tampering?. The villagers have no legal redress because they do not have the money to hire lawyers. Almost 10% of all oil produced in Nigeria is stolen by organised criminal gangs, and many believe that prominent politicians are amongst the beneficiaries.
