A pair of socks laid out to dry at Maharaja Ranjit Singh's tomb in Lahore. The former capital of his Sikh empire now lies in Pakistan and the hundreds of rooms at this gurdwara (Sikh temple), once used by travelling pilgrims, are empty. Most Sikhs left Lahore during Partition in 1947, and the gurdwara is now maintained by a skeleton staff.
