The Oshie gas flare, which occassionally spurts a jet of flaming liquids. The flare belongs to the Agip oil company and has been burning continuously since 1972.
The Rumuekpe community suffered much damage during the conflict among various rival militants and cult gangs over access to oil money. The inter-communal violence killed so many people, including women and children, between 2005-08. Thousands more were displaced by fighting that left homes, schools and churches in ruins with many suffering poverty and homelessness.
