On the banks of the Congo River, near the capital Kinshasa, valuable timber arrives from the tropical forests further upstream. Soldiers from D.R. Congo's armed forces (Forces Armees de la Republique Democratique du Congo (FARDC)) are guarding and supervising the workers. The government and the armed forces are deeply involved in illegal trade with timber, minerals, gold and diamonds from conflict areas.
