An art fair in Patzcuaro on El Dia de los Muertos - the Day of the Dead. This festival occurs at the same time as the Christian festival of All Soul's Day, and has been traced back to indigenous Aztec traditions. It is one of the most important holidays in modern day Mexico, in which tradition says that the souls of the departed will visit their relatives during the night. Although some perceive it to be a macabre celebration of death, the day is more about communication with the ancestors and the continuation of life. .
