Concrete structures on Hashima Island, nicknamed Gunkanjima or Battleship Island as it resembles a massive battleship. It is now an abandoned cluster of buildings rising from the Pacific ocean. From 1887 until 1974, the small island was a coal mine for the Mitsubishi Mining Company with 5259 residents, resulting as the highest population density in ever recorded worldwide. In 1974, the mine was closed, and its residents had to leave Gunkanjima, abandoning the island with all its buildings. The island was a location for the James Bond film Skyfall. /Felix Features
