A doctor prepares to administer an injection at the province's first rehabilitation centre for drug users. There are estimated to be several thousand heroin addicts in Uruzgan and the new rehabilitation centre can house 15 addicts. Treatment plans are made individually for each patient. They receive therapy, information about drug use, and are given help and support getting clean. The centre is part of a programme run by the Dutch Consortium for Uruzgan (DCU), a group of five Dutch and 12 Afghan NGOs.
