Violent ethnic clashes between the indigenous Uighur and Han Chinese populations have been rocking the north-western Chinese city of Urumqi since July 5th. At least 150 people have been killed in what one Chinese official has called the "deadliest riot since New China was founded in 1949." Both sides blame each other for the outbreak of violence and claim to have suffered most of the casualties.
