The remains of the airport at Shahat. Soldiers from the Gaddafi regime together with foreign mercenaries arrived to the airport to fight down the protesters. They totally destroyed this airport, killed more than one hundred civilians before they were killed and captured by the protesters. The captured soldiers are now being kept as prisoners in a local school. On 17 February 2011 Libya saw the beginnings of a revolution against the 41 year regime of Col Muammar Gaddafi. .
