Coastguard vessel KV Svalbard patrols the northermost waters of Norway, including around the islands that she is named after. The main task is inspecting fishing boats, but she also performs search and rescue missions, and environmental monitoring. The Arctic island of Spitsbergen is the largest of islands in the group that makes up Svalbard. The islands are close to the North Pole and about 60% of the land mass is covered by glaciers. The main activities are mining, tourism and Arctic research. © Fredrik Naumann
